About This Collection
Literature prints come in more forms than a quote on a plain background, and this collection covers four of them.
Classic poems and quotes. The largest strand is literature itself: poems and passages from the writers who fill school anthologies and second-hand bookshops. The Rudyard Kipling If Poem Print is the most popular, followed by Robert Frost's Fire and Ice Poem Print and Shakespeare Sonnet 116 Print. W.B. Yeats has the biggest presence, with The Lake Isle of Innisfree Poem Print and seven more, and there's room for Keats, Donne, Dickinson, Tennyson, Whitman and the F. Scott Fitzgerald For What It's Worth Print. Edgar Allan Poe is here too, with A Dream, for anyone whose taste runs to the darker end of the syllabus. The full set of poems lives in the poem prints collection.
Bookshop prints. A run of illustrated bookshop fronts, most of them autumnal and a couple wrapped in ivy: the Ivy Bookshop Night Print, the Autumn Corner Bookshop Print, the Maple Bookshop Print and Acorn Books among them. They're the kind of shops you'd lose an afternoon in, and they're about as close to dark academia wall art as you can get without lighting a candle.
Readers and writers. Animals and people lost in books: the Black Cat Reading Print, the Greyhound Reading Print, the Labrador Reading Print, a horse and a duck reading in bed, a mouse, a reading frog, and a Bear Writing Print for anyone still working on the novel. These overlap with the prints for readers collection, which focuses on the cosier, bookish side of things.
Words about words. The Abibliophobia Definition Print and the Tsundoku and Petrichor definitions are for people who collect words as well as books, and the To Pee or Not to Pee Shakespeare Print proves that Hamlet works in more rooms than you'd expect. For word-led prints beyond literature, the typography prints collection has plenty more, and the gothic wall art collection suits the Poe end of the shelf.
What rooms suit literary wall art?
Home offices and studies are the natural home for this collection. A poem at eye level over a desk, If or Desiderata for example, makes a better companion to a long working day than something merely decorative. The office wall art collection has more for that room.
Bedrooms suit the love poems and the quieter pieces. Sonnet 116, Donne's A Valediction and Yeats's He and She all work above a bed or on a bedside wall, where they'll actually get read.
Living rooms and landings with bookshelves suit the bookshop prints, which look at home next to the real thing. A pair either side of a bookcase works particularly well.
For gallery walls, mix a couple of poem prints with a bookshop scene and a reading animal so the wall has both words and pictures. Prints from the poem prints collection and the vintage prints collection sit comfortably alongside them.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is literary wall art?
Literary wall art takes its subject from books and writing: literary quote prints and poems, illustrated bookshops and libraries, characters reading, and prints built around words themselves. In this collection that means classic poetry prints from Yeats, Frost, Kipling, Shakespeare, Keats, Dickinson, Poe, Whitman and others, alongside bookshop illustrations, reading animal prints and definition prints.
Which writers and poets are featured?
W.B. Yeats, Robert Frost, Rudyard Kipling, William Shakespeare, John Keats, John Donne, Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Walt Whitman, Sara Teasdale, Joseph Addison, Max Ehrmann (Desiderata) and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Yeats has the most, with eight poems, and Frost has three, from The Road Not Taken to Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening.
Are literary prints good gifts for book lovers?
Yes, and they tend to feel more considered than another book token. A favourite poem suits birthdays, graduations and anniversaries (Sonnet 116 is a long-standing wedding and anniversary choice), If and The Road Not Taken suit milestones and new starts, and the bookshop and reading prints suit anyone who reads in bed for longer than they meant to.
What sizes are available?
Most prints are available in sizes from 5x7 up to A1, with both metric and US paper sizes. Full size options are shown on each individual product page. For a study or reading corner, A4 and A3 keep a poem at a comfortable reading size; for a bookshop print above a sofa or bookcase, A2 or A1 gives the illustration more presence.
Can all prints be ordered framed?
Yes. All prints can be ordered framed. We're rolling framed options out across the site, so individual listings will show whether a framed version is currently available. If you'd like a framed version of a print that doesn't yet have that option listed, get in touch and we'll sort it for you.
What is the print quality like?
Prints are produced on FSC-certified 200gsm fine art paper using a 12-colour press with a matte, glare-free finish. Text-led poem prints keep crisp, even lettering on the matte paper, and the warm autumn colours of the bookshop prints come through without glare.
